Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s vision to bring people from different cultures and religions together during a 1997 visit to Sharjah served as the inspiration for the BAPS Hindu mandir in Abu Dhabi. With the backing of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, granted land for the temple in August 2015 as a sign of inclusivity and peace.

Important turning points strengthened the temple’s status as a symbol of friendship, including the signing of a memorandum of understanding on February 10, 2018, the consecration of the foundation stone on February 11, 2018, and the formal foundation-laying ceremony on April 20, 2019, which was attended by governments from the UAE and India.
